Why Kinesiology?
Because - it works. It worked for me. And it continues too. Every. Single. Day.
I happened upon a Kinesiologist at a Wellbeing Festival in Bangalow, NSW in 2012. She was offering 15 minute consultations so I thought 'Why not? It can't do any harm!' Within 15 minutes, the Kinesiologist unravelled 15 layers of emotions relating to why my anxiety was entrenched. And it just made sense. So I was hooked - line and sinker!
I'd been to various other practitioners in my time, but had never found the right fit. So to leave that short session feeling heard, valued and 'not crazy' was phenomenal. And I wanted that for others.
You see, I'm a person that wants answers. I want to know why I feel that particular emotion, or why I have that discomfort in my shoulder, or why I should eat more greens. Kinesiology not only gives you a what and a why - it also gives you the 'where to' as well - and that's what sold me.
I had a short affair with Kinesiology solely as a client where I cleared so much pain, anguish, sabotage, nutritional dysfunction, and deep-seated emotional baggage. Then in 2014, I started studying the modality. I quickly signed up for ALL the study, and at the end of four years, I'd jammed in six years of studying and came out with a Diploma of Kinesiology… and the others.
I've always been a lover of health, healing and helping - so it's no surprise that my life before Kinesiology consisted of a Bachelor of Science (Anatomy/Physiology), Bachelor of Nursing and a Masters of Public Health. All before settling on a 10-year stint across two states in the child and youth mental health field (critical and school settings). I'll be honest, working in schools is hard work (good holidays, but hard work) - I always felt that there was a better way to engage kids to work through their stuff, but I just couldn't work out what. (Side note - it really is about the parents needing to work through their stuff so they can help the kid work through theirs as well - but I was employed to work with the kids - so I did that!). I would sit with kids and use all the 'tricks' under the sun to get them to talk - and they literally didn't have the vocabulary for how they felt. So when I learnt about Kinesiology and then started studying it - the pieces all fell together. For me, there was no turning back - I was going head first into being a Kinesiopractor. Because this stuff worked. And well.
After having my first bub, Billy I decided to not return to my nursing position within schools and put my all into my Kinesiology practice. And that's when life opened up. I watched as kids broke down in tears of relief because they felt heard. I witnessed discomfort go away in seconds when a long-held emotion was finally talked about and I watched lives transform and people reclaim their dreams, desire and drive.
And that's what I want for each and every person - to live to their fullest potential. Minus all the baggage crap that we have.
So what is it?
When I ask my clients what Kinesiology is a lot of them say 'I don't know, I just come to you, you touch my hand and then tell me what I have to do to have a better life'. And whilst that is a simple description of a session, there is a little more to it!
Kinesiology in essence, combines the western sciences of anatomy and physiology with eastern health philosophies in a process that looks at the body as a whole to work out what is stopping you from feeling how you want to feel or reaching a particular goal you have in mind.
Our bodies are constantly giving us feedback about how well we are functioning, however, in recent times we have unfortunately learnt to tune out to these messages - so we can just keep going.
We have become accustomed to looking for quick fixes to rid us of discomfort. In a lot of cases people simply resigning to our status quo - and tell ourselves that this is as good as it gets, whilst we rely on these poor habits and behaviours to get us through to the next day. And I call bullshit on that. The human body, by design, is a phenomenally intricate web of amazingness, that when given the right love, care and attention can be the perfect vehicle you need to live the life of your dreams.
So instead of looking for answers outside of ourselves or opting for quick fixes, Kinesiology helps you unpack what the body needs to function optimally, whilst processing any stagnant emotions and outdated programmes along the way. Often, simply creating awareness about how the body is out of balance, is the start a person needs to remember that they are worthy of everything they wish for.
We all have stuff we need to unpack. Everyone comes into this life riddled with programming from our parents and ancestors many generations back. And then we pop our own childhood journey on top of that, and a lot of the time we grow into adults who automatically behave or react to situations without conscious awareness. And let's be honest here, some of the time, our responses aren't the most appropriate!
We also develop sabotage programs throughout life that actually subconsciously stop us from living how we want. The most common of these that I see in both men and women include: 'It is my job to make sure everyone is happy' (not actually possible, as every individual person is responsible for their own happiness); 'If I just fix (insert numerous options), then.....my life will be better'; 'I don't deserve to be happy'; 'I get attention when I am sick' (this is a really common one developed in early childhood as a way to get attention from workaholic parents); 'You have to work hard for your money'; and 'I will avoid conflict by shutting down'. But honestly, there are hundreds and hundreds of outdated sabotages that come through my clinic doors. When we clear these, the results are astounding.
